1. About these terms

These terms of use (“terms”) are an agreement between you and OwedFinder (“OwedFinder,” “we,” “us”) and govern your use of the OwedFinder website, benefits check, calculators, guides, emails and related services (the “site”). Our privacy policy, cookie policy and disclaimer form part of these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

2. What the site is, and isn't

• OwedFinder is an independent information service. It is not a government agency and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for any federal, state or local government.
• Eligibility results and dollar amounts are estimates based on published rules. Only the agency that runs a program can decide whether you qualify and how much you receive.
• Nothing on the site is legal, tax, financial or immigration advice, and using it does not create any professional relationship.
• The site is free. We never charge you to apply for a benefit and we can't submit applications for you.

3. Who may use the site

The site is intended for people 18 or older in the United States. If you are under 18, use it only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the site for any unlawful purpose or to submit false, misleading or abusive reports;
• scrape, copy or republish substantial parts of the site, or use automated tools that place an unreasonable load on it, without our written permission;
• attempt to access accounts, systems or data you are not authorized to access, or interfere with the site's security;
• use the site to impersonate OwedFinder or a government agency, or to charge people for free government services;
• click on ads or partner links fraudulently or encourage others to do so.

5. Content you submit

If you submit a correction, experience report, tip or other content, you confirm it is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you have the right to share it. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, edit, moderate and publish it on the site. Reports are reviewed before they appear, and we may decline or remove any submission. Don't include personal identifiers such as Social Security or case numbers.

6. Our content and intellectual property

The site's text, design, graphics, calculators, data compilations and software are owned by OwedFinder or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. You may view, print and share pages for personal, non-commercial use with a link back to the original page. Official government materials we quote or link to remain the property of their publishers. “OwedFinder” and our logo are our trademarks.

7. Copyright complaints

If you believe content on the site infringes your copyright, send a notice to legal@owedfinder.com that includes: your contact details; a description of the copyrighted work; the URL of the material; a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and you are authorized to act for the owner; and your physical or electronic signature. We respond to notices that meet the requirements of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

8. Advertising, partners and third-party sites

The site shows display ads and labeled partner offers, and links to government and other third-party websites. We don't control and are not responsible for third-party sites, products or services, and your dealings with partners are solely between you and them. See our advertising and affiliate disclosure.

9. Emails and reminders

If you sign up for reminders or newsletters, we will email you about the topics you chose. Reminders are a convenience: agency deadlines and notices are what count, and we are not responsible for a missed deadline. You can unsubscribe at any time.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

The site and all content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Program rules change often, and we do not warrant that information is current, error-free or that the site will be uninterrupted.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, OwedFinder and its owners, employees and contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of benefits, income, data or opportunity, arising from your use of or reliance on the site. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site will not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100). Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, so they may not apply to you.

12. Indemnity

You agree to defend and indemnify OwedFinder against claims, losses and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these terms or your misuse of the site.

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator of the site is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, except where the law of your state of residence requires otherwise. Before filing any claim, you agree to contact us at legal@owedfinder.com and try to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days.

14. Changes and termination

We may update these terms by posting a new version on this page with a new date. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. We may suspend or end access to the site, or any part of it, at any time.

15. General

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a term is not a waiver. These terms are the entire agreement between you and us about the site.
