Who we are

This policy explains how OwedFinder (“OwedFinder,” “we,” “us”) handles information when you use www.owedfinder.com and its tools (the “site”). It applies alongside our terms of use and cookie policy.

What we never collect

• Social Security numbers or taxpayer ID numbers
• Bank account, card or other payment details
• Immigration documents, case numbers or benefit account logins

If anyone claiming to be OwedFinder asks you for these, it isn't us.

Information we collect

Information you give us

• Benefits check answers, such as ZIP code, household size, approximate income and ages. They are processed in your browser and carried in your results link. We do not store them against your identity unless you choose to save results or set reminders.
• Email address, if you sign up for deadline reminders or our newsletter, together with the programs and state you chose.
• Reports and messages, such as a correction or an experience report you submit on a program page, or an email you send us.

Information collected automatically

• Device and browser type, pages viewed, referring page, approximate location derived from IP address, and the date and time of visits.
• Cookies and similar technologies set by us and by our advertising and analytics partners, described below.

How we use information

• To show the programs, rules, offices and estimates that apply to your state and answers.
• To send reminders and newsletters you asked for. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
• To review corrections and keep program information accurate.
• To measure how the site is used, fix problems and prevent abuse and fraud.
• To show advertising that keeps the site free, as described below.
• To comply with the law and enforce our terms.

We do not use your benefits check answers to decide which ads or partner offers you see beyond the topic of the page you're on.

Advertising and cookies

We use third-party vendors, including Google, to serve ads on the site. These vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites on the internet.

• You can opt out of other participating vendors' personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices or, in the EU and UK, youronlinechoices.eu.

Partner offers labeled “Sponsored” link to other companies. When you click one, the partner may use cookies or a tracking link to record that you came from OwedFinder so it can pay us a commission. See our advertising and affiliate disclosure and cookie policy.

How we share information

We share information only as follows:

• Service providers that host the site, send email, store data and provide analytics, under contracts that limit their use of it to providing services to us.
• Advertising partners, which receive cookie and device identifiers and page information as described above.
• Legal and safety: when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and property of our users, the public or OwedFinder.
• Business transfers: as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

We do not sell personal information for money. Some state laws treat sharing cookie identifiers with advertising partners as a “sale” or “sharing” for targeted advertising; you can opt out of that at your privacy choices.

How long we keep information

• Reminder and newsletter emails: until you unsubscribe, then removed from active lists within 30 days.
• Reports and messages: as long as needed to review them and keep a record of corrections.
• Server logs: typically no longer than 90 days, unless needed to investigate abuse.

Security

The site is served only over HTTPS, and access to stored data is limited to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, which is one reason we don't collect sensitive identifiers in the first place.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon and other states with consumer privacy laws, you may have the right to:

• Know what personal information we have collected about you and how we use it
• Access, correct or delete that information
• Get a copy of it in a portable format
• Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising
• Not be treated differently for exercising these rights

To make a request, email privacy@owedfinder.com or visit your privacy choices. We will verify your request using the email address it relates to and respond within 45 days. An authorized agent may make a request on your behalf with your written permission. If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision; we will respond to appeals within 60 days.

California residents: in the last 12 months we collected identifiers (such as email and IP address), internet activity, and approximate geolocation, for the purposes above. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that require a right to limit under California law.

Children's privacy

The site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email privacy@owedfinder.com and we will delete it.

Visitors outside the United States

The site is designed for people in the United States and is operated from, and stores data in, the United States. If you visit from elsewhere, your information will be processed there.

Changes to this policy

We will post any changes on this page and update the date above. If a change materially affects how we use information you have already given us, we will tell you by email where we have it.
