Can I get SNAP and WIC at the same time?

Yes. SNAP and WIC are separate programs with different rules. You can qualify for both and use them together to feed your family.

Yes, you can get both

SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly food stamps) and WIC (the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children) are separate programs. You can qualify for and receive both benefits at the same time.

How the programs differ

SNAP gives monthly benefits on an EBT card that you can use to buy most foods at grocery stores.

WIC provides specific healthy foods like milk, cheese, eggs, beans, peanut butter, fruits and vegetables. It also includes nutrition education, breastfeeding support and referrals to health care.

Who can get WIC

WIC serves:

  • Pregnant women
  • Women up to 6 months after pregnancy (up to 1 year if breastfeeding)
  • Infants
  • Children under age 5

If you get SNAP, Medicaid or TANF, you automatically meet WIC's income rule. Otherwise, your income must be at or below 185% of the federal poverty guidelines.
