Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB)

SLMB is a Medicare Savings Program that helps people with limited income pay their Medicare Part B premium.

A Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB) program helps people who have Medicare and limited income pay their Medicare Part B premium each month.

To qualify, you must have Medicare and meet income and resource limits. Monthly income limit: $1,616 for an individual, $2,184 for a married couple. Resource limit: $9,950 for an individual, $14,910 for a couple.

Some states have higher limits or don't count resources, so if you're just over the limits, you should still apply. Applying is free, and only your state's Medicaid agency decides if you qualify.

If you qualify for SLMB, you automatically qualify for Extra Help with Medicare Part D, which helps pay for prescription drug coverage.

You apply through your state's Medicaid agency.
